Summer Run III

Once again we had a fantastic Summer Run. Thanks to all for coming. It was great seeing old friends again and putting names to the faces of those we had not yet met.

Final Rig count - 86

Huge thanks to our Raffle sponsors, Cooks, Servers and helpers. It would not have turned out as well as it had without your help.

Sponsors:

Wasteland War

Cooks and Servers:

And my Beautiful Wife and Daughter, Sillygirl and Mouse.

We arrived about 7 PM Friday evening and there was already a decent group of rigs there. Met up with snick and his Dad and some other folks, did a lot of visiting and BS'ing Fri night.. Had to put the Dually on the RTI ramp, I think it would have gone further but I did not wanna chance it.

Finally called it a day around 12:30 or 1.

Saturday morning we had the drivers meeting at approx 9 AM and split into several different groups. the group I was with took off on Cotton Bale trail, we had 28 rigs in our group I think. It was slow moving, but great watching all the folks make their attempts at the different obstacles throughout the trail. Our trail guide was Shane and as usual he did a kickass job. After the 1st set of obstacles, a few of the guys split off and went to try some different trails but the majority stayed with the group. There was a good mix of rigs from mild to wild from Rockwells

and 44's to toys and 33's, Several Early model Broncos and lots of jeeps. With that many rigs it took a good while to finish out the trail and once we did we split into two groups with one heading to Waterfall Trail

and the other to Rolling Joe

We went with the group headed for Waterfall, Mnmstoy was attempting a good sized ledge and smoked his clutch, BJ was having engine troubles so we headed back to camp to get a tow strap (we forgot it) and BJ and I went back to recover Mnsmtoy. He was doing great till he lost the clutch. by the time we got back Midnight Crawler had come in and we started getting ready for dinner.

Sunday AM we got up and had breakfast, visited awhile then Midnight Crawler, Lynnes toy, RVreddog and I headed out to the Comp area to play around for a while. RVReddog had to turn around and come back due to some fuel delivery issues. We made it out to the comp area and did a few obstacles and posing for pics then headed back in to finish packing up and head out. Had a great time.. Big ole thanks to River Rat for letting me wheel his jeep this weekend.. I'll try to get it home to you soon vato..

Myself and the family had a great time and We are looking forward to Summer Run IV already. Thanks again to all who came and wheeled We hope each and everyone of you had a good a time as we did.

Rastus

We had a great weekend! Thanks for the tow strap and shackle.

We did Waterfall, Rolling Joe's, Eugene's Balls, Boulder Lane, and Baby Huey's Crack on Saturday, then Sunday we did Looney Tunes and Klunatic.

My only damage was a smashed air valve on a back tire on Klunatic, that was about 10:30 this morning so we decided to pack it up and head out.

We headed out Friday around 3:30pm meet up with Rastus around Borne. Made it into K-Rock around 7PM or so.
The weather was somewhat hot and nice overcast helped cut down the heat. But, the bugs that bit were out in full force. Deep wood OFF seemed to hold up the best...the dark green can.
Anyway, we B.S.ed out and about Friday...hit up the RTI ramp meet a lot of new to me Ppls.
Night came and RVREDDOG was setting up camp (no electricity in the place they rented). I position the Yota to help light up the area. Well, after that I notice The OLD YOT was peeing on itself from the radiator hose just under the power steering pump.
Razorback and I got to wrenching. Flashlight in hand we managed to cut out the bad section and had enough hose to get us thru tomorrow.

Saturday:
We woke up early to get breakfast going... get a head start and not rush for the drivers meeting at 8:30AM so I thought. It was delayed for unknown reasons to me....I think it was around 9-9:30ish when we had the drivers meeting.
Heading out we were Going to Cotton Bale trail. IT WAS ON!!! no Aggie HWY for me. I was pumped. We were up front and my little toy on 33's was rocking. We hit some obstacles and feeling out my new mod...of hydro assist. Steering never felt better.

By about noon I found myself and the rear of the pack. We came up to a Y in the trail...to the left snick was waiting on a jeep that seem to be having engine trouble....so I backed up and took the trail to the right where Shaine was spotting. It took a few attempts to GET R DONE!!! in doing so I manage to stale her just at the crest of the climb. A few of the on lookers along with Shaine pushed her back over the ledge and at the bottom I got her fired. Lets do this!!! One last time....having a better feel of the line I wanted It was on. Up and almost over...I was hung up on my crossmember...tires g, to the left...to the right....to the left and I found some grip. In the mist of my little 4 banger screaming and tire smoke. I could hear the crowd making noise. It was adrenaline rush....I made it over.
I think at that point I may have hurt the clutch. A few more obstacles and we then splited into two groups.
Rastus lead our group going to the Water falls. I waited on Evans who seem to be having engine trouble. I caught up with Rastus group already at the top of the hill.
I could see Rastus telling me to take the bypass....not sure if that was for making up time to get to the trail or what? But, I liked what I saw the Rig in front up me doing and I wanted to try that ledge.
I managed to squeeze around a boulder with a off camber drop in it. I was all twisted up and Razorback seem to be enjoying riding shot gun.
Well, I finally got into position to take her on. A few attempts and it seemed I needed speed to get up. In the back of my head I knew my clutch was going. I just didn't know how far gone it already was. One more time. It was toasted. I could smell it.

I did get turned around and headed back down.....until I came across a stump and my Toyota was done for the weekend. Rastus and BJ headed back into camp for a tow strap........I recall someone saying naaaaaaw you don't need one...some one will loan you one if you need it. Well, needles to say I needed one. LOL
We made it back to camp after getting the strap back to camp. Thanks Rastus.

Man, Dajavu....I hope this don't become a pattern.
That was the end of my ride.
Blazer Killer up on stage with the local band.

Dinner was great. Texas4x4 along with some club members(Midnighters) put on a great sense of welcome...to A nice hot dinner.

After that and the excitement of the day I took a nap and John woke me up just before the raffle.
I walked away with a T-shirt, two off road lights, and a impact deep socket set....I later traded MUDAHOLIC for a "tow strap" that he had won for my lights.
Sunday:
We had breakfast at the Texas4x4 camp grounds. Taco's were great.
We were offered a ride from Midnight Crawler so we can enjoy the morning run. Thanks Richard. But, we declined and started breaking camp around 9am to beat the heat. We had fishing in mind but after loading up and heading home. I think we both agreed that fishing was just not going to happen. I dropped off Razorback at home and I headed home myself. Greeted my loving wife with a big kiss and a huge hug. I was beat, burnt, tired, stinky, I wanted a shower and sleep.
Over all This has been by far the best trip I have been on.
Many thanks to:
Rastus, Mouse, Sillygirl, Lynne's Toy, Midnight Crawler, Razorback and the rest that helped me and put on a great outing for Summer Run III.
Mike

I agree, and luckly the only ticket I will have to pay is for not having a trailer brakes on a trailer over 4500 lbs.

I got off with a warning for going 80 in a 70 and for the breakaway not being connected, I got a ticket for the trailer brakes and no registration... the tag was in Boulder Jumpers truck and we forgot to put it back on. The DPS actually weighed the trailer and we were like 300lbs over. But this all took place not 2 miles outside of Amarillo. We had no other problems for the rest of the trip.

I am not 100% sure but I think its a 7000 lbs trailer, it is Boulder jumpers trailer, I just offered to tow it with my Dmax to save a little on the fuel bill.
