Superlift ORV Park, Hot Springs 9/3/06

Rolled into J&J RV Park (4 miles from the off road park) at about 12:30 am Saturday morning after a trailer flat on the way up. In my haste to get to the park Saturday morning and meet some Louisianna friends I forgot my camera, so no Saturday pics.

We spent the day Saturday seeking out as many 4 and 5 diamond trails as we could get to, mostly 5's. If you ever get to Hot Springs, a warning: Dozer Hill is rated 4, but that sucker is every bit a 5. After a near roll followed by getting myself wedged between two big rocks front and back (it happened after my hasty retreat from the climb with a quick slam of the shifter into reverse), I had to call for a cable. The day was full of fun and lots and lots of challenges.

On Sunday another Cajun joined us for the day. We did a few of the same trails from the previous day and several new ones. I remembered my camera this time (no vids), but didn't take nearly enough pictures to show all the wild stuff we did. The only carnage Sunday was a busted tie rod on the big blue TJ.

I called for the winch on this one the instant the front started to slide sideways. I thought maybe I could do it with a little throttle bump, but I wasn't comfortable trying to back down with almost zero weight on the front tires (no steering control):

Hot Springs is a lot like Clayton, except way way more moderate and easy trails to choose from. The weather was great, with temps in the 80s during the day and low 70s or high 60s at night. For convenience to the park, I'd recommend Knights Inn motel. I'm told it's comfortable and affordable. I leave tomorrow for Dallas.

Enjoy a few pictures:

We passed through that trail while the blue TJ was wedged between those 2 big rocks. Went to the left of the tree. You went right by my trailer on the way into the park. It was the 1st RV spot on the left. The red clean YJ was camped right next to me. I climbed a hill called Mike's Revenge. Looked like a wall straight up. Had to put my foot to the floor at the bottom and hold it down all the way to the top. Puckered my b*tt. Me and Kevin (son-in-law) are planning another trip there for Thanksgiving weekend. I tried to post some pictures this morning. Couldn't get them to work.

Did you have a slide-in on front of a flatbed?

Yep, the cab-over on the front of the gooseneck, and the orange TJ.
Hatch, were you with the cajun group when the 4runner rolled?
Hey, George. Cell didn't work to good around camp. But, I always seemed to get a signal when I tried it out on the trails.

I made calls from the pavillion (surrounded by hills). I didn't check the phone on the trails this weekend but I have before. As I recall I get a good signal when on top of any of the hills and nothing down at the bottom of the creek/wash trails. I would guess I had a signal more than 50% of the time I was on the trail.

That is great news and means I can do my Job still if I go up there. 50% of the time is as good as I can get driving around in the oil field.
Make sure to invite me next time ya'll go.

You had an envite this time. Me and Kevin have plans to go back to Hot Springs for Thanksgiving Weekend. Can't go on a regular weekend. It is 820 miles roundtrip for me.

We will be at Gilmer Oct. 13-15.
