Wftw 2010

For me my trip started Friday morning.
Thanks to SAK5 for the morning phone call. lol
I loaded up my Yoda and headed out. HF seems closer then the last time I was their. Time sure did fly...or was it stress free because I was driving my Yoda and didn't have to worry about my C1500.
Anyway, Friday I helped out check drivers in hanging out with Delta and Ric. After awhile I headed to camp "B" changed out my rear drive shaft for my off Road one, aired down and had a few s. Helped for a minute cutting some of the fat off the Briskets.
Got comfy in my Yoda and feel asleep watching "Gladiator" on my phone.
Saturday, was same as Friday...Helped with the driver check- in Helped with getting Water/Food to the Pavilion.
I don't recall the time (drivers meeting) .....But, The Soldiers arrived and it was Game on.
For myself Laying out the Bon for Rocks and "Jeep Nation" stacking the wood. My day was more of getting water and Chips for Lunch.
However, I did take a Disable Vet "Hector" Wheeling on a few trails.
Midnight run and ended "Gourge" ??? or "the falls"....or something like that.
It was going great until the very end. I think Lynn's Toy was trying to get around me and slipped of the ledge and landed against the roof of my Yoda. hahahaha A yoda holding up a Heep from flipping over. Not so sure Hector was digging it...having a steering wheel almost to his face. SO we both back up and the same time. She flopped back on all fours. and I got ready for the last obstacle. Their was lots of people gathered around.
Trying to get a Tire on this wall was harder then I thought. We were in about 2 feet of water and trying to climb up this wall that had water running down it. I finally got a Passenger side tire on it. Cool gassed it and well.... I was looking at water. I was about to flop drive side. Took in my last bit of air. I was ready........I really thought It was going down.
Thank God my Rig stated up right.
Bullet (I'm sure I'm right) spotted me for a few more tries. Got both tires on the wall but she just wouldn't climb. Then to make matters worse. I stalled my Toyota. I must of bumped my manuel choke. Turning it over not knowing that. I was killing my battery. Finally I snapped and checked it. By Then I had already asked to hook my winch up. I was not going to make it unassisted. Got her going. Hector was ready. Controls in my left hand and steering with the other. I climbed right up. That was the hardiest Wall I ever tried. Mind you I drove my Rig from SA to Marble Falls.
Soon after we headed back to camp and got ready for the Bon fire.
Jeep Nation - Renee and her team had stacked the wood and had the mini Bon fire going for the kids making Sm-ores.
Wind conditions started to pick up while Dinner was being served. Great tasting brisket and Cool beverages of your choice. Made everything seem well worth the effort. Wounded soldiers having a great time. Everyone having a great time.
By then it was starting to get dark and still no Bon fire. I opt to not have one due to high winds. After all I doubt two small fire extinguishers was going to put out the fire.
Soon after Jeep nation help put out the small kids fire. I haded back to the top to enjoy Willie Nelsons daughter sing.
It was a great show. Delta ended the day with a speech, A wounded soldier got on stage and had a nothing but great thanks to everyone that made this event happen.
Group photo was taking of the Wounded soldiers celebrity's and WFTW SA to end the event.
Sunday was A great day to wheel.
Myself, Sak5's rig, Earl, and another Toyota joined Sak5's shack down run.
We did Midnight Run to get his tires dirty. LOL
Sak5's motor was still acting up. We hit some other trail and he headed back to camp to break down and get ready to head home.
The rest of our group wheeled all day and headed back to camp around 2pm.
Ate some more Great brisket and Drinks. Thanks Sak5 for staying and having some food ready.
Transformed the Yoda back to street ready and headed home.

I personally would Like to thank WFTW -SA .org Team for the commitment and dedication to making this event happen for the second time.
I felt the event went smooth from start to finish.
I know their were countless volunteers helping and my hat goes off to all.
Richard, Lynne, Rick, Delta, Jorge, Martha, Jeff, Carline, Jerry and wife(sorry don't remember your name), and all Drivers that took a soldier wheeling.
Thanks,

I know their was a lot I left out as far as help and more wheeling. But for the most part. It was a Fun event....Heart felt.
All the soldiers, I'm sure went home happy knowing that the Off Road community put this event on just for them.
Nothing feels better then having something like this happen. For myself back in the mid nineties Coming home from the Gulf War.
I can assure you. Being back in the states at home was the greasiest time for me. A event like this is Icing on the Cake.

Sounds like fun!

I think me and Zach crawled a wall side way at Amarillo, it was my side that was on the ground as we made the curve!

Don't feel Bad. We had more then enough Drivers this year. And the Winch that is mounted on my Rig saved me from a sticky spot. Thanks to you. I got up it.
The Vet in my Rig didn't know it. But it sure did make life Grand for having one.

I did see a Rig just like yours.....In fact I saw a few of them FJ's out and about.

Haha! When I backed off, 4 buggies shot their way up it. I think my problem was that I spent $52,400 less money than I needed to.

and Joel, there was a guy (can't remember his name, but he was driving your orange FJ) that helped me and my buddy tow his rig back to the park road after we rolled in about 3ft of muddy water and couldn't get our rig started up (5 lbs of mud in the air filter housing). Tell him thanks x 100! I don't know if we woulda been able to get it out of there without his help.
