Wheeling the northern end of SPI?

Well I finally made it to the beach this last weekend for a few hours at SPI. We got as far north as the 12 mile marker. Anyway the questions on my mind are if there is a legal place to wheel anywhere on the island besides just the beach next to the water? The guys at the ramp said something about the 18 mile and north of it but I have not been able to find out the skinny. They said something about a county line?? Wondering if that means that Cameron has different regs than Willacy? I searched this forum but have not found a conclusive answer.

So could someone please let me know what the truth is? even if I can't go off into the dunes or to the other side of the island i will be making a trip to the Mansfield channel at some point soon.

Driving on the dunes is illegal just an FYI. I've been all the way out to the East Cut which is basically the end of the line. I've actually been wanting to make a trip out there and do some fishing and jacking around, maybe build a big bonfire. It's about a 30-45 minute drive from the final legal entry point. PM me maybe we can set something up.

Kinda bummed about that but hey that is the story of the off roader! Is plenty fine to have more trash and debris than you can shake a stick at coming from the ocean but god forbid you drive up into the ???? dunes??? Moose Knuckles would be a better description.

We can't go where we wanna go when we wanna go there pretty much all the freaking time anywhere at all. Wish I could opt out of the whole tax thing with the fed, is not like they do a gol durn thing for any of us ever with all the cash we give em???

Night vision goggles & tequila!!

Just nice to get it in gear and at least run my junk rather than have it set idle. Yeah it might cost a couple of dollars to rinse it off but creeping around on the sand is ok IMHO. Can't wait to get north to the parks.

Just starting to get used to the heat.... got quite a ways to go yet before it is really hot so I guess I am lucky the year has been the so easy on me!

Not sure this is a case of an overbearing federal govt as much as trying to keep the dunes from catching fire more than they already do as well as trying to protect the wildlife.

Plenty of asshats romp the dunes down here regardless of the risk of being caught and the local towing companies love it. If you get stuck beyond extraction, you're looking at a $2,500-$5,000 recovery bill (not including the fines from the LEOs.)

X2. The wildlife preservation is a big deal down here, especially during the turtle nesting season.

I am all for turtle preservation but when the heck are they going to do some sanity preservation for us? All across this country they are closing everything. Here it is all private or if public restricted. Hell the sierra club is just as big a PITA here as anywhere I have been. Wish there were a way to have some sort of happy medium instead of the extreme. Wish there was a way to put the sierra club out of business, but in a country where Obama has been elected twice I think we are toast and the end is in view.

So who is out there?? Park or Texas Rangers, DPS, Border patrol? Who enforces the law out there? When is turtle season?
