What do you mean by "clean up"?
Scaly rust will clog up a blaster, as well as grease.

yes, rust. a good sand blaster will eat through it. i could always hit it with a grinder first to get the big stuff off

Maybe a blast cabinet, but not an open pot. Always sift the used sand before reuse.
