Dana44 parts

I'm probably going to keep the Dana44's under Wagoneer a little longer and run 36's while I do other mods and I'm looking for spare parts.

stub shafts, short and long-side replacement axleshafts ( for narrow track Dana44 FSJ front axles)

Mine is a passenger drop '78 model

I am also re-doing the SOA that was craply done by a PO and I need a good set of SOA Dana44 spring perches(the ones that are on it are probably less than 3/4 of the width of the leaf springs). Stock type or heavy duty.

I have a Dana 44 out of a 78 K5 Blazer with a passenger drop. Complete axle disc to disc with after market locking hubs, all steering arms etc and a steering stabilizer shock. Axle needs gears. Only 150.00. located in DFW area.

'78 GM would be a corporate 10-bolt front axle. The Dana44 was used up til '76 full-time.....then some showed up mixed in with corporate 10-bolts during '77....but the 10B took over for the '78 year.

Even if it was a D44 I could only use the stub shafts and the hubs as spares. The fullsize truck axles were a few inches wider than the narrowD44 under my Wag and spending the $$ to narrow the axleshafts isn't worth it , to me.

But thank you

I now have a 10 bolt(junk yard) in it only cause it gets me by, I am the 3rd owner of the K5 and it was completely stock when I got it. Are you sure a 78 didnt come with a Dana 44 front and a GM 12 bolt rear.

Well, never say never. I have yet to see a 78 with a factory D44 under it and I have seen quite a few (dozens) many of which ranged from completely stock to mildy modified. Its possible a previous owner had axle issues and coincidentally wound up replacing the origional axle with an earlier D44 from a scrapyard. Its not unheard of, as it is a straight bolt-in swap and if it was done years ago, then time and alot of road grime could make it appear stock.

If you do indeed have a GM front Dana44 the flattop knuckles on it are highly sought after, as you probably already know. If I hadn't just scored a ' deal on a pair of pre-machined flattops I'd take you up on that.

I might be able to help you unload it through one of the Jeep sites I'm a member on.

My '78 PU came with D44/12B combo original. But I don't know if Blazers were different.

yep, dot has the right pic. The knuckle on the right is a flattop. The one on the left has the more common, rounded top.

Get the B.O.M. number off the tube and post that, then one of us(or me) could research it.

My 78' Chevy 1/2 ton has a D44 front w/flat tops.

"1978 - Frame changes were made to fit catalytic converters. Trucks with V-8's and 4wd, had struts added between the engine and transmission, and other struts from the trans to t case. This was the last year the Dana 44 front axle was used (though it does appear in later models). This is the first year power windows were offered. Late in the model year, a fuel door was added, leaving no fuel cap exposed on the bedside. This began with models using unleaded fuel. Trim packages offered: same as last year."
