I've got a 205 at the house complete with crossmember, shifter, and adapter. The only thing I know it's missing is the collar, and I might know where one of those are. Down fall...it's a slip yoke rear. Make offer if ya want it.

What is the spline count off the rear? It will be replacing a 208 with a slip yoke.

I believe it's 32, but I would have to count em to make sure.

I see what you all have. This is for a family member. I think he may be looking to just replace the 208 now.

Anyone have a chevy NP208 that was behind a TH350?
Mike

Dumb question here....what is a collar?
And you are sure it came behind a TH350. I don't know much on T-case but it has to fit behind a TH350.
Mike

Does a $100 next weekend sound cool.
Let me know.

I dont know too much, but all the chevy NP205 t-cases that I have seen with a collar were 10 spline. It(205) has a 10 spline male input shaft and the earlier model SM465 has a 10 spline male output shaft. Tha collar has 10 spline female at both ends. It is used to couple the two 10 spline male shafts. (wow, that sounds gay) I know this sounds confusing, I'm confusing myself just typing it. Hope it helps a little.

You will need a 27 spline input to work with the TH350. Or you can buy an adapter somewhere to make it work. From all the reading I have done it looks like the 32 Spline is for the TH400.

There is also a 32 spline SM465, these are the late model trannys.

You are correct, found from 1985 - 1991. The newer version 205's in those vehicles had the circular bolt pattern instead of the figure eight.

Hey Donuts, I don't want to sabotage this thread or cut Mike out since he is looking, if he passes on your t-case, I would be interested if it is a 32 spline.

He is going to pass..I think he just wants to replace it with another 208.

I've got a 208 in my K5 that i'm going to be pulling in a couple of weeks. It has been behind a 700r4 though. Works fine, I'm changing drive lines.

Not sure that will work behind a TH350.
Would you know if it will work?

I'll have to get it out and count the splines. I've heard the 208's come in 27 and 32 spline versions.

He needs the 27 version....or he can swap out parts from both to make one good one. We are thinking the chain broke.

I know it's a lot of reading, but your adapter question may be answered here:

Quote from above link

"The TH350 transmission is very common and was coupled to the NP203 in MANY GM trucks. The TH350 transmission will need a 27 spline output shaft that sticks out of the case by about 7/8". This output configuration was used with NP203 and NP205 transfer cases. The NP203 will need the 27 spline input gear to match the 27 spline shaft. This input is only found on 203's that came with a TH350 originally. The adapter between the transmission and NP203 is a 1" thick plate with a mounting foot to secure it to the vehicle's crossmember. This adapter plate was only used on factory TH350 to NP203 applications.

A less popular auxillary method of attaching the NP203 to the TH350 is to use the TH350 with a longer output that was originally used with an NP208. You will use the 27 spline input in the NP203 to mate to this shaft and use the TH350 to NP208 adapter housing. This requires drilling and tapping new holes in the front of the NP203 to bolt it up in place of the NP208, and may require very minor machine work on the NP203 input bearing retainer. The drawback of the second technique mentioned here is that the factory TH350 to NP208 adapter housing is about 2.5" thick so your overall drivetrain length will be longer than using the factory 1" plate.

GM TH700 R4 / 4L60E Automatic Transmission:
The TH700 has the same bolt pattern on the back of the transmission as the TH350 and uses a 27 spline output shaft."
